Vern Parker, 1899 - 1978, is an American Western artist born in Hanford, California, was most known as a painter and woodcarver in the 1940's and 1950's. He carved gates and signs for wealthy landowners and ranchers. You will find some of his works in museums and if you go online and view Mattai's Tavern, which is a former stagecoach stop, now a restaurant, you will find a stagecoach carving above the entrance. Later on, he moved to Arizona, which is where he had a studio and gift shop. To this day in Benson, Arizona at the Horseshoe Cafe, you will find Vern's murals. In Benson, his postcards became very popular and extremely collectible. He then moved to Colorado and was a well known figure for his carvings and artist. He tried splitting his time between each place, but he settled down in Silverton, Colorado, which is where he passed away in 1978.
