Charles Dickens Works, 48 Volume Set, Maginifique Limited 26 Edition Books Dana - Circa 1900
Fabulous, Estate, set of Charles Dickens Works, a 48 volume set, the Magnifique Edition, one of only 26 lettered editions, this one being lettered K. In fabulous condition for their age. This set was published by Dana Estes & Co., Boston, Massachusetts, undated, around 1900.
The photos really tell the story, each book measuring 9 1/4 inches high by 6 1/2 inches wide, of gorgeous half leather calf and silk, having the spines lettered and tooled in gilt, with the bindings being a deep, dark unfaded brown. The lighting changes the actual color. The second photo of one of the books represents the true deep color well.
The last two photos represent the nice condition that the books are in, having some rubbing from handling the books here and there mostly on the tops, some on the backs. The bindings are so tight that I doubt that no one has yet taken the time to read any of them. These were beautiful in the library.
