Beautiful early 20th Century Rookwood dog portrait mug, artist signed by E.T. Hurley, shape #587C.
Circa 1902. To represent the year 1887, one flame point was placed above the RP mark. Another flame point was added for each year until there were fourteen flame points for the year, 1900 with the additional roman numeral to denote the year.
Measures 4 3/4" tall.
Decorated by artist E.T. Hurley, Edward Timothy Hurley. You will see the artists signature impressed, as well as the shape #587C and the Rookwood mark impressed on the base.
Features a beautiful dog portrait on the front part of the mug in a gorgeous color of brown and was done with a standard glaze.
E.T. Hurley (Edward Timothy Hurley), 1869-1950, was born in Cincinnati, studied McMicken and belonged to the Cincinnati Art Club, Duveneck Society. He was active at Rookwood from 1896 - 1948. He married Irene Bishop on August 16, 1907, who was also an active Rookwood artist and decorator. He was a teacher and a well-known etcher, which he published many books of etchings.
The mug is in beautiful condition.
