Rare, monumental, punty and panel emerald green cut to clear 30” Boston and Sandwich glass banquet lamp with a rare quatrefoil ball deep emerald green 7 3/8” diameter ball shade, the hues being a deeper green in both ends of the font and the base in this lamp. Emerald Green being the hardest color to find. More are found in blues. And no matter what color, only a very few exist with their original ball shade., only a handful, if that.

This lamp is period, from the 1860 to 1880 period, and all original and is in excellent condition, measuring 21” to the collar and 30” to the top of the ball shade, coming with its original marked Duplex burner. (The burner has a couple of minor splits, commensurate with age and use, as the photos show.)

This lamp is considered to be the rarest of the Sandwich glass lamps measuring 21” to the collar and supported by a double step 6 ¼” square marble base with cast gilt bronze ornamentation in the Corinthian style. There is normal roughness on the step up marble base, as the photos show, commensurate with age and use.

A similar example of this lamp is one of the three overlay banquet lamps featured by Maude Feld in an ad published in the 1966 March issue of Hobbies Magazine. She said it is “absolutely unique”, only one I have seen with its original matching overlay globe”, and “an unbelievable gem”.

As mentioned, the punty ball shade is of a slightly deeper emerald green, thinking when the font is full the emerald green would match the base and ball shade perfectly. The shades were mixed and matched when purchased at the factory. This lamp comes with a second shade, a frosted, flint glass flared shade, having the normal factory roughness on the base and a few minor scratches, for use when less light was needed. Most only come with a shade such as this flint one, making the green original ball shade, in wonderful condition, very valuable.

This gorgeous lamp was recently deaccessioned from a local museum. For both the artistic beauty of the color and rarity and history, you just cannot beat this lamp. It is doubtful that you can find another one of this caliber for sale. It is a one of a kind item that will enhance any living area, while retaining its intrinsic value.

Good reference for this lamp is the Sandwich Glass Museum and the Glass Industry in Sandwich by Barlow and Kaiser, who was a past customer of ours in the 1970's. No one will ever forget the Jeffrey Evans sale of January 31, 2015 when lot 158, a 3 step up taller Boston and Sandwich banquet lamp in this rare green color WITHOUT a ball shade brought $18,400.00 including the 15% buyers' premium.
