Gorgeous Early Van Briggle Damsel of Damascus Figural Lamp Base Mid-20th Century
Gorgeous, early, Van Briggle, tall, mulberry matte figural form lamp base titled, Damsel of Damascus.
Circa 1946 - 1950's and measures 10 1/2" tall, 21" tall with the works and the base measures 6 1/4" x 5 1/4". Marked, with the Van Briggle incised logo on the back side, which you will see in the photos provided.
Features a gorgeous female figural design done in mulberry matte glaze. The wiring is all original.
Artus Van Briggle was born in 1869 and passed away from tuberculosis at a very young age in 1904. He was an American artist of Dutch descent and was world renown in Europe as a painter and received highest honors for his works. In 1899 he left Rookwood where he was a celebrated artist and in 1901 he opened Van Briggle. He created and perfected satin matte glazes in beautiful colors, ie:matte blue glaze. His media consisted of earth clays, feldspars, oxides and the orange flames from a kiln. His creations were that of beauty, elegance and nature blended into one. His works are still highly collectible and are widely sought after by collectors.
This lamp is in excellent condition with no chips, hairlines or cracks.
