Tohono O’odham (Papago), Handwoven Fret Design, 10” Coiled Basket
Absolutely beautiful, Tohono O'odham (Papago), fret design, coiled basket.
Measures 10" in diameter.
This basket is coiled, done in yucca and devils claw. The interior matches the design on the outside. It starts with a beautiful circle in the center and slowly graduates up in a stunning fret design. The rim is finished in a beautiful devils claw weave.
The Tohono O'odham (Papago or Desert People) still reside in Northern Sonora, Mexico; however, most are in Southern Arizona. They used natural colors from desert plants, such as yucca, bear grass and devils claw to make trays, bowls, lidded baskets, pictorial and plaque baskets and more.
Shows little wear and is just stunning in person. In wonderful condition.
A great addition for any Papago or any Native American basket collector. Enjoy!
