HMIJ J Ortega Shop, Navajo Sterling, Turquoise, Coral Chip Inlay Peyote Bird Buckle
Beautiful Navajo, sterling, peyote bird, chip inlay buckle.
The buckle measures 3 7/16" x 2 1/4" and weighs 2 3/4 ounces or 75 grams. It is hallmarked on the back with the authentic Ortega Shop hallmark, sun feather symbol with the initials HMIJ, which stands for Hand Made by Indians, Ortega Shop. The J, we are unsure of the artist, but we have been trying to research thoroughly.
Features a sterling buckle with a red coral chip inlay sun, below the sun there are turquoise chip inlay sun rays with sun and sun beam symbols below the chip inlay. Centered is a turquoise and red coral chip inlay peyote bird with half circles symbolizing the speed of the peyote bird on both sides. Below you will see what is either mountain peaks or waves. To the left are a red coral and turquoise nugget, which symbolize flowers on roped stems with a sterling leaf. There is a sun symbol in the top right hand corner with double lined borders that extend to the top middle of the buckle and to the right hand middle, outer side of the buckle.
The back of the buckle you can see it is all hand done and the hallmark is on the bottom left. There is some wear to the hallmark, which is normal from use.
This buckle is wonderful condition and is absolutely beautiful.
A wonderful addition for any Native American collector.
