Extremely rare, boxed suite of fifteen etchings by Brian D. Cohen, important bridge structures.

This series of 29 1/2” x 22” hand done etchings show the detailed architectural structure or geometry of these historical pieces.  Each are individually numbered and signed by the artist, #5 out of only 10.

This preserved suite of etchings was recently found in storage and are now being offered for sale.   It is in excellent condition, complete including the sleeves.

This was the artist's presentation of this set in 1992:

Bridge Press presents BRIDGE.  A folio of fifteen etchings of bridges by Brian D. Cohen.   The etchings depict the relationship of these structures to the land joined and space traversed by the bridge.  The shared architectural geometry of the natural setting of the picture plane and of the bridge itself is underscored in each print throughout the suite.  BRIDGE draws on historical photographs and period ephemera in its evocation of industrial forms in nature.

The etchings are printed on full deckled sheets of Magnani Pescia Paper and are slipsheeted with Japanese Paper.  The folio is presented in a clamshell box designed by Linda Lembke of Green River Bindery, which measures 23" x 31" x 1".  The title page is printed letterpress from 19th Century wood display type.

Brian D. Cohen is an etcher and founder of Bridge Press.   He studied painting with Jacob Lawrence at the University of Washington and graduated from Haverford College.  He has taught Drawing, Painting and Printmaking at the Putney School for seven years, where he was Dean of Faculty, Chair of the Arts Department and Director of Summer Programs.  He has exhibited etchings throughout the United States and has offered several workshops in etching.

What a treasure in this awesome condition.  Also included with this suite is a wonderful poem by Chard de Niord and pencil signed by the poet.  This poem has a signed and numbered, 10/20, etching by Brian Cohen, Like A Shadow At Evening, 12" x 13 1/2" to the left of it, in a special folder.

What a rare and great find.   This would make a great gift for a civil engineer or architect, or collector of fine art.  ENJOY!!
