Highest Quality Stephen Huneck Signed Zebra Wood Tiger Maple Secretary Desk
Gorgeous Steve Huneck desk of the highest quality in workmanship, design and the woods used. Steve loved Gothic Revival mixed in with his personal design and carving ideas. This desk is part of the rejuvenation of the Neoclassical style in a Grecian design.
Steve was a personal friend of ours, starting to auction some of his sculptures through our Sir Richard's auction, in Stowe, Vermont back in the 1980s,
After one of our auctions, in which we sold a 3' fisherman with a pole and carved fish of his, he was pulled over by an art dealer from New York who saw another carving on Steve's truck. This started a long time business between Steve and this New York art dealer, having his sculptures represented in New York City for many years.
Steve eventually, not liking paying the hefty commissions, opened his own gallery in Vermont. He would stop in our Antique Shop about once a month to tell us about his new adventures as an artist.
Around 2002, Steve told us about a desk and a bed he was commissioned to make for a client, excited as it was about a $35,000.00 contract. Well, we now have the fabulous desk and now it can be yours.
The desk is made up of the finest Zebra wood and curly maple including the use of solid curly maple in the secondary wood for the drawers. The horizontal lines in the zebra wood are in the beautiful graining of the wood.
This is the best built piece of furniture that we have ever seen for quality and we think you will agree.
This is a drop lid desk over two bottom drawers of zebra wood, curly and burl maple. The upper case, which comes off, is Greek Parthenon design having 12 columns over two large supporting columns with dore gold capitols.
The open galleries are deep with a fantastic curved zebra wood back.
If that's not enough, Steve added a double door secret compartment in the back the open to narrow shelving inside. They are quite hidden having a spring push closure, therefore not noticeable.
Steve's noted carving of the sun and sun rays and a double K are signature with his art. The double backward and forward K meaning it is alright to make a mistake. Backward K meaning to strike out and forward K meaning that's okay. This is our interpretation of his meaning.
This beautiful desk measures 77 inches high, 39 inches wide and 23 inches deep. It is signed by Steve on the top of the back just above the two secret doors, S. Huneck 5/2005.
This piece is visually a knockout and built to the highest standards. You will not find a better built piece from such a talented artist. We are pleased to be able to offer this desk to you.
