For a brief history on favrile glass, Tiffany received the patent for favrile glass in 1894 and the first piece was made in 1896 and in 1900 favrile glass won a grand prize at the Paris Exposition. Unlike most iridescent glass, favrile is different due to its color not being just on the surface, but being embedded in the glass. The favrile world originated from the original English trade name, fabrile, which means handcrafted or hand-wroght. Tiffany changed the word to favrile, as they thought it sounded better. The colors in favrile glass, you will find gold lustre, samian red, mazarin blue, turquoise blue and aquamarine.

If you research, you will find that favrile was the first art glass to be used in stained-glass windows and it compliments a large ornamental clock in the Guardian Building in Detroit.

It is in wonderful condition, having no cracks, hairlines or repairs. The patina on the gold dore bronze base is exceptional.

This is such a gorgeous and exquisite piece that would definitely be an extreme eye catcher for any mantle or a great addition for any Tiffany collector.
