Stowe, Vermont estate, this exciting, rare, one of a kind 13 piece set U. S. Ski Team etched glassware from the 1960's period.
According to the estate, this set was specially made by a U. S. glass factory to raise funds for the U. S. Olympic Ski Team, which was formed in 1965. A member of this family was closely associated with the team when they were purchased.
All the pieces are copper wheel etched with a U. S. Ski Team skier with the U. S. Ski Team logo on each piece. One plate and the two fabulous paperweights just have the U S logo, the rest having the U S T logo. We are also told that these pieces were not mass produced, probably why we cannot find anything like these pieces, even on the Internet, after spending hours on trying to research them. If anyone has any more information, it would be fun.
The set includes the 10 7/8” by 4” in diameter tall vase, the 8 ½” tall decanter, the absolutely gorgeous pair of 6 ½” long, 3 7/8" tall by 3 ¼” wide paperweights (We thought these were book ends to begin with, however the backs are sloped.), the 5” tall by 5 ¾” diameter ice bucket with tongs, the 7 ½” with 4” top diameter footed vase, five 8" diameter plates, the large 11 ¾” square serving tray and the 5 ½” tall pitcher.
This set would make a wonderful display for a back bar, a ski museum, a ski lodge or displayed with other ski memorabilia.
A beautiful set which is in fine condition, having no chips, cracks or repairs, with minor wear, mainly on the plate bottoms from use and the large serving platter has one minor chip on the bottom lower right hand corner, as the photos show.
