Absolutely beautiful, early Apache coiled basket.
Circa, early 20th century and measures 10 1/4" in diameter and 3" high.
This basket is tightly coiled, done in a devils claw geometric design and finished with a stunning weave. The interior matches the design on the outside.
The Apache's used natural fibers for material, such as; devil's claw, willow and yucca root, etc. The designs varied from geometric forms, animal motifs and cultural symbols. They made a variety of baskets like, trays, ollas, bowls & burden baskets for their aspects of daily life. The most common basket was the burden basket.
It is in wonderful condition for the period showing absolutely beautiful patina. There are some areas of minor loss to the rim, which is photographed for your convenience. They do not take away from the beauty of this tray. It is just stunning!
A great addition for any Apache or Native American basket collector. Enjoy!
