Beautiful English harbor scene by noted English artist Adolphus Knell, (1860 - 1890).
Circa 1860.
This small size, well done oil painting, with the gorgeous original frame measures 9.5” wide x 9” tall x 1 1/2” in depth and the image size is 5.5” x 6”.
It is in fabulous condition. The receipts show that this painting originally listed for $4,500.00 and sold to the estate for $4,200.00. Much of the history of Adolphus Knell is attached in the photos; however, he came from a family of sea painters. He was first a marine painter in Bath, later moving to Bristol, England.
This is a petite, luminous work being oil painting on copper and amazingly well done.
