Beautiful late 19th Century, hand hewn, large, burl ash, Penobscot Native American, bowl.

Measures 15 1/2” in diameter by 9” tall and is circa 1890.

This is similar to the one signed by Pauline Shey at the Hudson Museum University of Maine. These large bowls were usually used by the tribe to make cornbread.  It appears to be ash by the oversized rings.

This is not a turned bowl, but a gorgeous, heavy, 12 pounds, hand hewn and hand chiseled interior bowl.  There are two minor hairlines in the bottom, commensurate with age.

The pictures tell how scrumptious this bowl is.   It will be a keeper for sure. Enjoy!!
