Beautifully Executed Pastel Portrait of a Gent with Original Frame - Circa 1790
Absolutely handsome, large and boldly executed English pastel portrait of a gentleman in its original frame.
Circa 1790 and is in its original frame. The pastel with the frame measures about 34” high x 28” wide x 3 1/2” depth. The pastel image itself measures 26 1/4” high x 20 1/4” wide and weighs 22.6 pounds.
The portrait is of a handsome gentleman wearing a waistcoat, which for this period, the waist coats were double breasted and the men would wear a linen shirt underneath. He has salt and pepper, wavy hair with sideburns, brown eyes and gorgeous skin tones. The colors are exquisitely done with tones and shading.
I cannot help, as I walk by, to just glance at this handsome gent, as he is inviting and warm to look at. The execution of this pastel was spot on, is one of our favorites in our showroom and for sure is a show stopper.
The frame is of the period, original with this pastel and there is a stamp on the back, which I am having trouble reading, but I will include this in the pictures provided. Please ignore the glare in the pictures, as the pastel is under glass. I did my best to avoid them; however, there are some, so I apologize in advance. These pictures do him no justice at all.
Please review photographs thoroughly.
