Miniature French Napoleonic General Jean Christophe Collin Painting ~ Circa 1810
Historical, miniature painting of Napoleonic General Jean Christophe Collin on bone in its original period wood frame.
Measures 5 1/2” x 4 1/2”, the frame is 5 3/4” x 7” and dates 1810.
The painting is done on bone and mounted on heavy paper, the background being an oil paint and the figure done in pastel.
Jean Christophe Collin, a French General in the French Revolutionary War and the Napoleonic Wars, was also called Verdiere. (1754 - 1806) He was born in Paris. He commanded the Garrison at Paris in 1797 and was appointed General the next year. He was part of the Grand Army of 1802 -1806 and was injured at the Battle of Jena Auerstadt. He died after that battle.
A fantastic piece of French history, this is a period piece in fine condition for its age. It would be a great addition to any historical archives.
