Stunning painting by noted artist, Conger A. Metcalf, titled, "Head of Woman."

The image measures 6 3/8" tall x 5 1/4" long and with the frame measures, 14 1/2" tall x 13 1/4" long.

It is depicting a young girl with a pearl necklace on done in graphite and watercolor.  Features gorgeous soft tones.  She is absolutely beautiful.

It is in beautiful condition with minor toning to the matte, which is expected with age.  Retains its original Martha Ross Gallery, Brookline label and the Fenway Art Center, Boston, Massachusetts label on the back.

Conger A. Metcalf was born in Iowa in 1914 and passed away in Boston, Massachusetts in 1998.  He was known for his soft toned colors of oil pigments onto canvas, Masonite and waxed papers, as well as figure-genre, floral and wildlife.  He specialized in in painting young children, sketching and more.  His subjects were usually moody, but he does have some cheerful works.  He represented at the Hayden Gallery, M.I.T., Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Boston Atheneum, the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, MA, Cedar Rapids Art Center and Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  His work can be found at the Fogg Art Museum, Cambridge, MA, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, Phoenix Art Museum in Phoenix, AZ, Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA and DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, MA.
