Original US Army Model 1880 Springfield hunting knife, made as a useful tool for the US soldiers serving on the frontier, and as an entrenching tool for use in the Indian Wars. It was produced at Springfield Armory in 1882.
The knife is 8 ½” long with a total length of 13 ¼”. It has a 2” wide pointed blade and a peaked spine down the center of the blade. The cross guard is marked US with Springfield below it and the serial number is, 4597.
This knife is in nice condition having just a ¼” chip on the end of the turned maple handle. See the photos for more detail being used as part of the listing.
This knife will be a nice addition to any Indian War militaria collection.
